Heard about Zoom Fatigue? It's real

Having been in the lockdown for now close to 3 months, I thought I had perfected working from home. The study has been rearranged to accommodate me 8-10 hours each day every week (compared to 1-2 days/week), external monitor in place, and an assortment of devices all at hand to facilitate home working. Yet, I felt completely drained out by the end of the day.

Normally I start my day with some exercise in the home-gym (another by product of lock-down) and take intermittent breaks in between - probably more than what I do while working in the office. However, I still find myself drained out at the end of the day. I was also hitting the bed earlier than I “normally” (pre lockdown) would.

Yesterday while casually browsing the Net I came across the term “Zoom Fatigue”. I was intrigued. The affliction that’s come to be known as “Zoom fatigue” is way more than a byproduct of too many meetings. Social scientists say it’s the result of the sudden mass adoption of technology that’s disrupting the normal, instinctual and finely-tuned way of communicating that developed to help humans survive. The issue is, online video interactions are fundamentally different from face-to-face ones. “When we’re sitting face-to-face with someone, we are physically present and this allows us to be more in-the-moment and not feel so ‘stilted’ or ‘performance-oriented’”
